Fall is the season for the best horror movies. What better time for a scary movie than right around Halloween and the annual Tree House of Horrors Simpson's episode? I myself am not a huge fan of scary movies. They all seem to be similar. Some murder is chasing some beautiful people seems to be a staple of the horror genre. So when I see some original stories I do get a little excited. I think I've got 2 solid picks below.
Must See Horror: Paranormal Activity- This shit looks scary, which is a good thing for a horror movie. The bad thing? It is only opening in 12 cities. That is it, 12. And the 12 cities are all college towns. What does that mean? It means the people behind the film are geniuses. College aged movie goers are the top crowd for horror films. They are also the number one crowd plugged into social media sites. The film cost $11,000 to make and don't think they are going to spend 1,000 times that on marketing. So let the college crowd see it at some of the largest Universities in America and then let them create massive buzz about it creating a massive demand, and all of it for free. So far after one week out at 33 theaters, it has earned $800,000. Once it gets a wide release it'll be a massive money maker, and the reviews from those 33 theaters are great. Past the marketing genius of the film it looks like a movie that will have you paranoid all through it and for about a month after it. I could explain, but it would be better if you just watch the trailer.
Honorable Mention: The Fourth Kind - If aliens scare you, then this will make you shit your pants. I get scared watching the trailer, but I have a fear of aliens. The split screen trailer of actual footage mixed with movie footage makes this film seem very very very real. I'm not sure if the movie will have some split screen shots, but expects this film to scare.
Skip It: Saw VI - Seriously a sixth one? Why see this crap when you can check out the other two?
I want to see Paranormal Activity so bad.
