The last day of the Fall Movie Season Genre Previews. Today it is action movies. One of the things I like about the fall action movie season is the lower budget. You typically don't have all the CGI and explosions and slow motion running. What you do get is a solid script with some good action sequences. One of my favorite action films of all time is Casino Royale and it was a November release. I think there is some promise in these two films and hope to catch both of them.
Must See Action Film: The Road - Viggo Mortensen is a good actor in a role like this. A post apocalyptic world where only a few survive a single man and his son try to find a place in the country where they can survive. However, dangers lurk such as cannibals and other survivors who will do anything to live. We've seen Viggo travel across middle-earth in order to save the world, so why wouldn't we want to see him travel down the East Coast of a decimated America in order to find safety for him and his son. Rarely do we get to see action movies that focus on a single person, or in this case couple, but if I Am Legend was a sneak peak into this film, then count on it to be good, with a little more drama and some more realistic horrors, people doing whatever it takes to survive.
Honorable Mention:Law Abidding Citizen- Gerard Butler is really turning into an action star after his breakout in 300. I know people who just refer to him as King Leonidas. This movie looks like a suspense action flick which is good. You can have your action movies with explosions, but the added suspense makes the movie watching experience that much better. While the plot is familiar (man loses family and then hunts the people who did it/were involved) it has some doses of originality because even after being arrested for his crimes of passion/revenge, Butler manages to continue killing. It seems very Hannibal Lector-esk.
Skip It: 2012 - Could the story and special affects be so over the top that this becomes a spoof movie?
