Fall Movie Season Preview: Comedy

I'm going to do a fall movie season preview in segments through the week. There looks to be a lot of promise out there this fall and I want to make sure everyone catches the right movies and skips the studio crap that gets thrown onto the big screens. Today is Comedy and while there are a handful of good ones, well at least movies that show some promise, I'm only going to try to convince you to see the ones that look a notch above the rest.

Must See Comedy This Fall: Pirate Radio - I've got a soft spot for British Comedies. It could have something to do with the difference in humor from American comedies. It could have something to do with the dry wit. Or it could have something to do with the accents. Who knows? Either way though, I have had my eye on The Boat That Rocked (That is the British Title) aka Pirate Radio for awhile now. One reason is the cast. Bill Nighy, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Nick Frost all on the same screen is appealing to me. Another reason is the soundtrack. A movie about the height of Rock and Roll in England (The Sixties) can't have a bad soundtrack. The story seems to be an original take on the "Damn the Man" storyline, but have a look at the trailer and judge for yourself.

Honorable Mention: The Men Who Stare At Goats - Should be a very original screenplay with some good actors, Clooney, Bridges, McGreggor, and Spacey. Based on the true story of the US Army's program to develop their own "Jedi Knights." I'm serious too.

Skip It: Transylmania - Another Spoof piece of shit. Seriously people, these movies will keep coming out unless you stop going to them, so STOP.

Note: Youth In Revolt would have been on this list, but the release date has been pushed back to January 2010 for all you who might have been wondering about that.

  1. I was disappointed to hear the push back of Youth In Revolt, I really want to see Michael Cera in a lead role. I'm also looking forward to The Men Who Stare at Goats, the trailer looked quite funny.

  2. I was disappointed because Youth in Revolt had such great buzz surrounding it. But pushing it back will kill some buzz and sometimes it won't come back resulting in a box office flop. However, it could still do well in January when students are back in school at the start of a semester and don't have as much on their plate.
