True Grit

John Wayne's only Oscar was won for his role in True Grit, a movie about a young girl out for revenge and the US Marshall who helps her out. Well you can assume John Wayne played the US Marshall. It was recently announced that Joel and Ethan Coen will do a remake of the film set to be released in 2011. The best news about this is that they have signed Jeff Bridges on to play the role of the US Marshall.

Now True Grit was originally a novel and the Coen brothers have said they plan to stick more to the novel than to a remake of the original film. While the original film did not stray far from the book, I think this means the Coens plan on producing something with a little more emotional depth to it. However, at the end of the day I really do like the idea of Jeff Bridges playing Rooster Cogburn who is described as an aging, one-eyed, overweight, trigger-happy slob who never seems to miss a drink of whiskey, but he also has “grit.” I made the claim the other day that no actor in Hollywood can deliver the F-word better than Bridges. I hope he gets the chance to drop it a few times in this flick.
