Extract

A movie that comes out in exactly one month that has not had much buzz around it is Extract. I find this a little surprising because of the cast and from how promising the trailer looks. Mike Judge is the writer/director of the movie staring Jason Bateman and Mila Kunis. Jason Bateman plays Joel, an owner of an Extract plant who faces a plethora of problems such as incompetent employees, an unfulfilled marriage, and general world-is-shitting-on-you problems. Naturally a girl enters the picture and maybe Joel's streak of bad luck can come to an end, or maybe it's just another bad day.

Mike Judge has done the whole workplace-sucks film before. Almost everyone has seen the cult-classic Office Space. This will be his first movie back in the directors chair and second movie he has written since Office Space(Idiocracy was the other). Judge has proven he can bring out the humor in the workplace. The only concern is that this might be an unintentional sequel to Office Space. Some people might not think that is a bad thing, but hopefully that debate isn't needed and Extract is original material.

Jason Bateman has a strong following of fans thanks to the popularity of Arrested Development (The well written sitcom that Fox single handled killed). Bateman has not really had a lead role in a comedy so this will be a first. I doubt he will falter with this opportunity and his general sarcasm will be well received.

Mila Kunis has proven to be sexy and funny with her role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Her role in this film looks to be a little more flirtatious, but there isn't much to not like about her in the lead female role of a comedy.

Finally Ben Afflect has a nice role as Joel's best friend in what appears to be a "dude" character. Afflect plays average guy roles pretty well and based on the trailer it looks like he has some fun with this character.

I hope in the coming month more people get turned onto Extract and the marketing for the film begins to grow. Right now September looks like a rather bleak month for movies following what looks like a very strong August.
